Elective Dance

Students in years 9 and 10 have the opportunity to choose Dance as an elective subject. This course caters to a range of abilities no matter your experience as a dancer. The elective courses focus on the study of Dance as an art form and comprises three main areas of study; Performance, Composition and Appreciation. Students work with their dance teacher to learn technique and dance sequences in styles such as Jazz, Contemporary, Modern and Musical Theatre. There is also the opportunity to work on group, pairs and solo compositions, allowing students to tap into their creative ability and express ideas and concepts through dance. In appreciation, students study the Elements of Dance and view performance pieces from professional dance groups such as Bangarra Dance Company and are also given the opportunity to go and view live performances, which is a great experience.  We are now using our brand new professional Dance studio for all elective dancers.

MCCP Representative Dance Squads

Each year, students from years 7-12 all have the opportunity to audition for the representative dance squads. These squads perform multiple times throughout the year at competitions and school functions. The teams include:

  • Junior Jazz (Year 7)
  • Intermediate Jazz (Years 8 to 9)
  • Senior Jazz (Years 10 to 12)
  • Hip Hop (Open ages)
  • Contemporary (Open ages)
  • Tap (Junior, Inter and Senior).

These teams work towards competing at the Sydney Catholic Colleges (SCC) Dance Competition where they compete against 10-12 other Catholic schools in the area. We also compete at the Sydney Dance Eisteddfod held at the Sydney Opera House and the University of New South Wales. The squads also have the opportunity to perform at the school’s prestigious Principal’s assemblies throughout the year.

Student Dance Leadership Program

Our representative dance squads are proudly choreographed by our very own talented Marist dancers. Each year, selected students are offered the opportunity to choreograph for the representative dance squads. This allows for students to display their talents, work as a team and to develop and demonstrate leadership skills.

Drama

Drama is an art form that explores the ever-changing world through making, performing and critically engaging with theatre to cultivate a range of transferable 21st century skills that contribute to the holistic wellbeing of a student’s academic journey.
