Inside the classroom
All Music classes develop the student’s skills in Performance, Composition and Listening and Analysing Music. All classes are differentiated to allow individual learning plans for each student. Technology is central in the Music classroom at MCCP. Students use the same software that professional Composers use to create their own works. They are also given access to cloud based software that helps develop their Musical Literacy along with their listening skills.
Year 7 Mandatory Instrumental Program
The Instrumental program is designed to give every student the opportunity to learn a musical instrument or develop their skills on their current instrument. There are two paths students may choose to take.
Extension: Students who have been learning an instrument for 3 or more years are invited to audition for our extension instrumental program. The program is designed to introduce students to ensemble skills and develop their higher level performance skills. This program also incorporates theory and composing and allows students unique performance opportunities.
Mandatory Instrumental Program: students learn to play their choice of instrument. They can choose from instruments such as piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello and guitar. Students attend their instrumental class once a week as part of their Mandatory Music lessons and are taught by specialist instrumental teachers.
Year 8 extension program
This program has been introduced as a specialist program to enhance the performance skills of our Year 8 students. It has been designed to continue from our extension program in Year 7 and allow students who play an instrument or sing a chance to engage in project based learning. The selection process for this program is based on classroom and extension program nomination.
